Your Help is Needed to Welcome Ride for Miracles

bikeOn May 5, Joplin will play host participants in the 2013 Ride for Miracles. Alese Woolard, head Women’s Soccer Coach, is partnering with Pete Hall, the general manager at Residence Inn, and other organizations to put together a welcoming community for the group who will be staying in Joplin this Sunday, May 5.

The Riders are a 12-person group of motorcyclists/friends who are riding 9,000 miles cross country over 21 days that will include visits to all 48 lower states. This is a benefit ride that helps to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network and has raised more than $430,000 in the last four years. The motorcycle riders share the common goal of ultimately raising at least $1 million over the course of the rides. In addition to paying for all of their own expenses, the Riders voluntarily take time off from work each year to participate.

The visit to Joplin is sponsored by Hammons Hotels.

“One of the riders is Brad Hansen who is the father of Jon Hansen, our Men’s Soccer player that passed away on campus 4 years ago from a heart attack,” Alese says. “We want to line Hammons Blvd with as many people as we can to show our appreciation for what they are doing. We need MSSU supporters to show Brad that he is still part of this Southern Family.”

To celebrate the Riders’ commitment to the Children’s Miracle Network, numerous community organizations have planned a Bikes on the Boulevard Welcome for the Riders between 3 – 4 p.m. on May 5.

Faculty, staff and students are asked to join the Women’s Soccer team, the local Children’s Miracle Network, and other motorcycle organizations to welcome them to Joplin

This welcome will be located on both sides of Hammons Boulevard from an area just north of the Holiday Inn Convention Center and south of 32nd Street.

Sam’s Club has graciously offered the use of their western parking lot for parking for this event. The public is encouraged to bring their lawn chairs or blankets and welcome signs and to arrive early.
